With a unique and rich connection to the American Revolution, Unionville Vineyards is proud to announce the Washington Collection, a series of wines celebrating America250, the semiquincentennial of the United States. These wines, blends of French vinifera and French-American hybrid grapes are 100% New Jersey grown in the very soils from which our new nation sprung forth. Each wine tells a different story on the back label, explaining Unionville's various connections to the War for Independence.
The historic house on our Pheasant Hill Vineyard property is referred to as the Hunt House since John Hunt, an American patriot, was a tenant in 1778 when George Washington used it as his headquarters in June of that year. Washington stayed in this house for two days with his soldiers camping out in what is now our Chardonnay field, prior to fighting in the Battle of Monmouth. A war council was held in this house and among those present were Generals Lee, Lafayette, Greene, Wayne, Duportail, Stuebem, Knox, Scott, Sterling, and Poor.
